The basics
Hand wash your wrapped or PPF car with a pH-neutral shampoo, keep pressure washers away from film edges, remove bird droppings and sap quickly, and avoid polishes and waxes on satin or matte film. Park in shade when you can.
Six habits that make film last
- Wait a few days after the job before the first wash, so the film settles.
- Hand wash with a soft mitt and a pH-neutral car shampoo.
- If you use a pressure washer, stand back and never aim at seams or edges.
- Clean bird droppings, sap and fuel spills the same day.
- Skip abrasive polishes and cutting compounds, and on satin or matte film, skip wax.
- Park in shade or a covered car park when you can: sun is the biggest ager of any film.
Automatic car washes
Brush tunnels can scratch film and catch edges. A hand wash, or a touchless wash used gently, is kinder to a wrap or PPF.
Colour PPF self-heals, within limits
On colour PPF, light swirls fade under hot water or a hot afternoon. Deeper cuts through the film stay, and a damaged panel can usually be re-filmed on its own.
Come back for a check
One owner who had coloured PPF fitted with us wrote that they were asked to come back after a week so we could check for air bubbles or defects. If anything lifts or bubbles, WhatsApp us a photo.
