The short answer

It depends on the film, the panel and how the car is kept. Film makers publish their own durability figures, usually in years, and the figure is lower for horizontal panels and for hot, sunny climates like Singapore's. A car that is parked under shelter and washed gently keeps its wrap looking good for much longer than one left in open-air car parks all day.

Why does Singapore weather age a wrap faster?

Strong sun all year means steady UV exposure and high surface temperatures, especially on dark colours. UV fades the colour and dries out the film over time, and heat softens the adhesive at the edges. Frequent rain is less of a problem than sun, but dirt left to dry on the film after rain can stain lighter colours.

Which panels age first?

The roof, bonnet and boot lid face the sun directly, so they usually fade or lose their finish before the doors and sides. Edges and deep recesses, where the film is stretched the most, are where lifting tends to start.

What are the signs a wrap is ageing?

  • Fading or a chalky look on the roof and bonnet.
  • Small cracks in the film, often on horizontal panels first.
  • Edges or corners starting to lift.
  • Stains that no longer wash out, or a gloss finish turning dull.

How can you make a wrap last longer?

Park in the shade or a sheltered car park when you can, wash the car by hand regularly and dry it, and clean off bird droppings and tree sap quickly. Avoid harsh brushes and holding a pressure washer close to the edges. Our guide on caring for a wrapped car covers washing and products step by step.

Does the finish make a difference?

Satin and matte finishes show stains and marks differently from gloss and need gentler cleaning, so care matters more. See satin, matte or gloss to compare, or our colour change wrap service to talk about which film suits how your car is parked and used.

Questions

How long does a car wrap last in Singapore?

It depends on the film, the panel and how the car is kept. Film makers give their own durability figures, which are lower for horizontal panels and sunny climates. Sheltered parking and gentle washing make a wrap last longer.

Which part of a wrap fades first?

Usually the roof, bonnet and boot lid, because they face the sun directly. Edges and deep recesses are where lifting tends to start.

Can an old wrap be removed safely?

Usually, yes, by a wrap studio. The longer an old film stays on in the sun, the harder it can be to remove, so do not leave a failing wrap on for too long.
