The short answer
Choose a vinyl wrap if you mainly want a new colour at a lower price. Choose colour PPF if you also want real protection from stone chips and scratches, and you plan to keep the car for years. Both can be removed later.
How they compare
| Vinyl colour wrap | Colour PPF | |
|---|---|---|
| Material | Thin PVC vinyl film | Thick TPU (ours is 7.5mil) |
| Stone chips | Some protection from light marks | Absorbs stone chips and road rash |
| Light swirls | Stay until polished or replaced | Fade with heat (hot water or sun) |
| Finishes | Widest range, from gloss to matte | Gloss, satin and matte in a smaller range |
| Our posted price | From $1,588 full car | Tesla Model 3 satin black $2,788 nett (Oct 2026) |
When a vinyl wrap makes more sense
A wrap is the quickest way to try a bold colour. If you change cars every few years, lease, or just want a fresh look for your next chapter, vinyl gives you the most colours for the least money. It still keeps the original paint underneath, which helps when you sell.
When colour PPF is worth the extra
If you drive on expressways daily, the front of the car takes a stream of small stones. Colour PPF takes those hits so the paint does not. Its hydrophobic topcoat also means rain, bird droppings and tree sap slide off, so washing is faster. For a car you want to keep looking new, the extra cost buys years of protection, not just a colour.
What both need
- Healthy paint underneath: chips and bad resprays show through film and can lift when it is removed.
- A careful installer: edges, door shuts and seams decide whether a job looks factory or homemade.
- Gentle washing: hand wash, keep pressure washers away from edges, and skip harsh polishes on matte or satin film.

Questions
Is colour PPF better than a wrap?
It protects more, because the film is thicker TPU that absorbs stone chips and heals light swirls in heat. A vinyl wrap costs less and comes in more colours. Which is better depends on whether you want protection or just a new look.
Which lasts longer, wrap or colour PPF?
Film life depends on the brand, the colour, and how the car is parked and washed. Ask us which film we would fit on your car and what its warranty covers.
